12 Principles of Animation

For Alec today we viewed several animation shorts and had to write a few notes about the animation, like the types of shots and the movement I believe.

This was so we can look back in a few weeks at our evaluations after we go through learning the 12 principles of Animation, put together by Disney animators Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas in their 1981 book The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation.

it’s not about making it realistic, it just needs to be believable.

in a sense it’s making a set of rules for the universe your animation is in and sticking to them consistently.

There are tons of resources explaining the 12 principles, here are two sources Alec showed us.

and this website has a good explanation of the concepts.
